How do I pronounce JÖRĐ?
Well, we won’t sugarcoat it. It’s a tongue-twisting word, especially the ö. But if you think of ea in earth and call it Jearth, Jeard or Jord/Yord with a sounded d, you’re on the right track. And we’re really not that particular about how you pronounce it.
You know, the d is actually really old and derives from the letter edh or eð. It was used in Old English, Middle English, Icelandic and Faroese. In the Middle Ages, we also used the letter in Scandinavia where it was eventually replaced with dh and later d, as we know today. You can still find the old edh letter on Faroese and Icelandic keyboards.
